Peter Kan, MD, Named President of the Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery (SNIS)
FAIRFAX, Va. — Peter Kan, MD, will serve as the 2026–2027 president of the Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery (SNIS), the world’s leading scientific and educational society dedicated to advancing the specialty of neurointerventional surgery. Dr. Kan is an endovascular neurosurgeon, serving as Professor and Robert L. Moody Sr. Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch.
Representing nearly 1,500 members worldwide, SNIS brings together specialists in interventional neuroradiology, endovascular neurosurgery and interventional neurology to advance research, education, advocacy and standards of care that improve the diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the brain, spine, head and neck.
Dr. Kan pursued neurosurgical training at the University of Utah, where he also completed a Masters of Public Health. He then became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada prior to starting his endovascular fellowship at the University at Buffalo. Upon the completion of his fellowship, he joined the faculty at University of South Florida. There, he served as the director of cerebrovascular and endovascular neurosurgery. He was subsequently recruited to Baylor College of Medicine as an associate professor and the director of cerebrovascular surgery.

Justin Fraser, MD, an endovascular neurosurgeon at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, is now president-elect of SNIS. Jonathan Grossberg, MD, an endovascular neurosurgeon at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, was elected vice president.
