NVQI-QOD Registry

NeuroVascular Quality Initiative-Quality Outcomes Database (NVQI-QOD)

A Neurointerventional and Cerebrovascular Surgery Registry

Improving clinical care and outcomes for patients with stroke and cerebrovascular diseases

Clinical registries are become essential for quality improvement due to their ability to capture structured, validated data on real-world patient populations.

Many accrediting bodies also require collection of significant detailed clinical information and follow-up on delayed outcomes in patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke.

Participation in the NVQI-QOD enables physicians, surgeons, and hospitals to assess technical efficacy, clinical outcomes, safety/complications, length of stay, and other critical metrics compared to national benchmarks for quality assurance and improvement. NVQI-QOD has accumulated over 20,000 neurointerventional/cerebrovascular surgical procedures and participants include many of the top medical centers in North America.

Benefits to NVQI-QOD Participation

  • Track procedures, peri-procedural in-hospital data, clinical outcomes, and safety of patients
  • Utilize registry data to compare metrics against national benchmarks and establish best practices
  • Enhance patient care by comparing procedures, complications, and outcomes for patients treated by surgery, endovascular therapy, or medical management
  • Capture and analyze long-term outcomes of patients to one year—or longer
  • Assess procedural techniques or device efficacy to monitor interval changes in surgical practice
  • Gain assistance in meeting the demands of regulatory agencies
  • Spread the responsibility of data entry across staff by allowing multiple users to access and enter data into a single electronic database

Accurate and Comprehensive Data

Developed by physicians for physicians, the NVQI-QOD registry captures 100% of procedures including important demographics, procedural metrics, and post-operative data to provide detailed outcome and safety analysis to inform clinical practice improvement. The registry is powered by the Fivos PATHWAYS platform, which includes built-in error detection and regular audits to ensure data integrity and prevent selective reporting.

NVQI-QOD is an externally hosted, web-based registry, providing stakeholders with the most secure and robust solution to the challenges associated with registry creation and data sharing. Users can enter data, submit records, locate existing records, and generate reports without storing any protected health information on their local devices.

About

NVQI-QOD

The Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery (SNIS) launched the NVQI registry in 2013 with the objective to improve procedural quality and patient care. In 2019, it became the NVQI-QOD registry through a partnership with the NeuroPoint Alliance (NPA) and was most recently adopted by the Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology (SVIN) in 2021. The NVQI-QOD is governed by the SNIS Patient Safety Organization (SNIS PSO), which takes direction from a Governing Council comprised of representatives from all three physician societies representing neurointerventional and cerebrovascular surgeons in the United States.

SNIS PSO

The SNIS PSO collaborates with regulatory agencies including the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), as well as the medical device industry to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of neurointerventional/cerebrovascular surgical procedures and devices. The SNIS PSO helps physicians and other healthcare providers share procedural data and analyze clinical outcomes associated with patient safety.
